Newark, New Jersey – The SEIU New Jersey State Council congratulates newly elected Senator Andy Kim on his victory to the United States Senate.

“We are thrilled and proud to see Andy Kim elected U.S. Senator from the state of New Jersey.  The son of immigrants, a mother who became a nurse and the first Korean American elected to the United States Senate, Andy Kim supports fair treatment for all workers and the right to organize and collective bargaining,” said Megan Chambers, President, SEIU NJ State Council and Co-manager of the Laundry, Distribution, and Food Service (LDFS) Joint Board, Workers United SEIU.

“Senator-elect Kim is a capable leader who respects working people, including immigrant workers, and is committed to defending our rights and freedoms.  Leaders like that are needed in Washington now more than ever,” concluded Ms. Chambers.

The SEIU NJ State Council is composed of unions representing service employees across the state, including health care, warehouse, laundry, and school cafeteria workers. Our diverse membership also includes motor vehicle inspectors, resident physicians, and municipal employees in Newark. The council includes 1199 SEIU Healthcare Workers East, Laundry, Distribution and Food Service Joint Board of Workers United, The Committee of Interns and Residents, and 32BJ Motor Vehicle Inspectors.
