SEIU NJ BACKS MENENDEZ FOR US SENATE

Workers, leaders site Menendez’s strong voting record for working families.

Westfield -  In the heart of his opponent's back yard, the leaders of  SEIU NJ announced their commitment to launch an aggressive campaign to mobilize their 45,000 New Jersey members for Menendez.

Kevin Brown, President of the SEIU NJ State Council, said "Menendez has fought hard for our workers in Washington on critical issues like living wages, health care, and long-term care." He added, "Now it's our turn to fight for him to ensure he continues to be our voice in Washington."

As a Congressman, Menendez has a 100% SEIU voting record.   In his first seven months as a US Senator, Menendez has already reached a 92% SEIU voting record.

"Menendez is the strongest voice for New Jersey working families," said Milly Silva, Vice President of SEIU NJ State Council.  She added, "He is also a champion for nursing home workers and their residents when he fought against Bush's Medicaid Cuts.

Cristina Martinho, a nursing home worker said, "Menendez has helped us get one step closer to quality jobs and quality resident care when he helped us win new federal funding to improve staffing, wages, and direct patient care for our nursing homes."

SEIU New Jersey State Council represents long-term care, building service, hospital systems, and public service workers across the state.

Silva said, "Working families need a fearless leader who we can trust to fight against Bush's economically-regressive agenda, that leader is Bob Menendez."

"I am both proud and humbled to have the support of SEIU New Jersey, which represents some of the hardest working people in our state.  I have devoted my entire career to fighting for working families, and this endorsement inspires me to keep standing up for them against the Bush agenda that my opponent unfortunately supports."

Brown said, "New Jersey's communities will be flooded with a sea of purple to get out the vote for Menendez."

"I am excited to work with the SEIU's active and diverse coalition not only in the months ahead, but long after that. I pledge to always stand up for what is right for New Jersey's working families, even what it is hard, and I know that I can always count on the SEIU to stand with me in the fight to change the direction of our country."
